THE PEOPLE
Finland has a population of approximately 5.2 million.
Languages The country has two official languages. Finnish, a Finno-Ugrian language, is spoken by 93% of the Finns, and 6% of the population are Swedish-speaking. In Lapland, the northern part of the country, there is an indigenous Sami-speaking minority. Many Finnish people speak English, others German or some other European language, which is an advantage to a foreign visitor.
The Religion There is a complete freedom of worship in Finland. The majority of the people belong to the Evangelical Lutheran Church, and some 1% to the Orthodox Church
